Waiting for April Fools' Day

March 30, 2007

Yes, just two more days.  I want to thank everyone down here who participated, especially the doctors and nurses, but also my family and friends, and let's throw God in there, too.  We've all made it seem very believable.

It's just like the movie The Game, starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.  It's an elaborate game, paid for with multi-millions, that ends up seeming so real that sometimes I do deal with it as a reality that may kill me.  But no, this is a game, so there are ways to win.  It's been difficult, and the special effects are amazing.

For example, I know that there is not really a puffer fish behind my eyelid.  I know that my eye is in a jar, waiting to be reconnected when the Reckoning Day arrives.  My neck has been sliced by a pirate's hook, but it's just a flesh wound that can be cured by some 'Tussin.  I've got blood packets that go off in my nose every once in a while, and a chemical is time-released that hurts my back, neck, and shoulders.  I've got bumps that are actually the implanted audio/video bugs that were transplanted into me when I...

I shaved Brian's head today, I also presented him with the "Punk/Mohawk" look but he wouldn't keep it.

We met Dr. DeConti, who confirmed that Brian will start Chemo on Friday. They plan to admitt him on Thursday night and start chemo Friday. It will be four days of Chemo and then he can go home for four weeks and then Chemo again, and so on depending on changes. His white cell count, hemaglobin, and platelets have been low.  A blood transfusion may be done Monday morning after they check his blood again. Also, on Monday they will be doing surgery to insert a "Port" for easy access to his veins, it's like a permanent IV. No more needle poking!

At 10am this morning we were at the Moffitt Cancer Center for Brian's appointment to review his CAT Scan. Well they had a CAT Scan of his abdomen and chest, which revealed several more tumors, one (not so obvious) had eaten away at one of his ribs. The other tumor is in his right lower back and they did a biopsy and confirmed it was also Rhabdomyosarcoma. There is also a growth in his lungs believed to be cancerous. There is another growth in front of his right ear which is the size of a golf ball right now which is assumed to be cancer that wasn't removed during surgery ( they said it was infection). Dr Trotti, the radiologist said they will skip radiation for now.

So now appointments with Dr. DeConti the Chemo Guy.

Stronger Than Friction

March 27, 2007

Who's narrating your life?  Is it your friends, your family, the government, TV news, self-help books or infomercials, musicians, dogs who can talk?  Even if you don't write, you can be the artist who creates your own view of life and you can become more than a cog.  You contribute your own ideas to life and try to make something new, then you are making life worthwhile.  You are playing finite games within the Infinite Game.

Hi, I'm Matt Foley.  I'm a motivational speaker.  I'm thrice outcasted, I've been called a fat guy in a little coat, and I live in a house...down by the old guy from Family Guy.  There is only one infinite game.  It is beyond why's.  The finite games are all of our beliefs, morals, ideas, and knowledge.  These are all games, creative art that we inherit, sometimes change, and pass on to the next.  Even scientific and mathematical truths change through time with different theoretical standards or interpretations.  We've got some very believable finite games, I'll admit.  But don't just accept all of them.  Make some of your own, introduce some new ideas.

People are sending out finite games all of the time.  They want...

Surgery was performed to remove the tumor in Brian's maxillary sinus. It included removal of the eye, facial nerves, maxillary sinus walls and orbital bone and bone under the eye. Another surgery was performed to remove his lymph nodes (55) in his right neck. 13 are cancer.

Brian has some complication with his heart and bleeding. They gave him a blood transfusion and will be monitoring his heart to see if there are any more arrhythmias.
