Da Bulls!

September 30, 2007

Hello, I don't care about college football.  That was me two days ago.  Now I'm a whole different, better person.  Ana was listening to the radio on Friday morning at 6 AM after work.  They were giving away tickets to the South Florida (USF) vs. West Virginia (WVU) college football game.  The hosts wanted people to call in and offer something to trade for the tickets.  No one was offering anything good.  Then a guy with an 8-year-old autistic son who loves football called in.  They said, "OK, but what if someone with cancer calls in?"  Anastasia called in and instead of hanging up on her immediately as they had been doing to others, they kept her on the radio for about 3 minutes.  She gave them some information about me, including that I'd never been to a football game and I am 28, and took her phone number.  Ana went to sleep because they didn't say anything else about the contest.

A few hours later they called and left a message while we slept telling us that we had won the tickets, and we wouldn't believe how.  We found out that later someone from the USF Bulls had called...

Recognize Your People

September 28, 2007

In Chemo news today, it was discovered that the Moffitt Cancer Center forgot to administer the drug Aranesp to Brian Satyricon earlier this week during his chemo.  Aranesp is meant to keep his hemoglobin and red blood cells high, while chemo depresses those values.  After many calls, the experts decided that I didn't need the shot this time--for the first time ever--because my hemoglobin was 11.7 and they try to keep it below 12.  But it will end up dropping?  How far?  Who knows?  It's an experiment with my life.  Yay!

Got some good movies through Blockbuster Online, 2 weeks free.  All scary.  Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof, about a homicidal stunt driver who stalks lovely ladies to death.  Disturbia is easier for the commoners to handle.  It is inspired by Hitchcock's movie Rear Window with Jimmy Stewart.  You can't leave your house, you spy on your neighbors out of boredom and then voyeurism, and then he think he see a murder.  Interesting setup.  I didn't notice that the mother in the movie played Trinity in The Matrix and Bitch in Memento.  I'm slippin'.

Then there was Perfume:  The Story of a Murderer, from the director of the high-speed video-game continues movie,...

P.S.

September 21, 2007

I saw Dr. Duh-conti four days after getting out of the hospital. My platelets went from 15 back up to 149k, just above the minimum of the normal range. My white blood cells are good again so I'm still going to do my chemo on Monday and Tuesday next week. This Saturday we are having our wedding reception which is now just a gathering in our new apartment. It will be cool. We'll reschedule the wedding for Florida, probably in November. I'm watching the movie The Naked Gun. Poor O.J. He takes so much punishment in that movie. Oh, I almost forgot, just like Dr. Duh-conti. The chemo that I'm currently getting, fifth round of it next week, accumulates in the body and once it passes a certain point, it can cause heart failure. OK, I'll do what I have to do, but I would like to know little things like fatal consequences ahead of time. Before the next round they will do a MUGGA scan (sounds dangerous, even though I've already had one at Tampa General Hospital) to see if my heart has been fucked over. Good tidings. P.S. Possible heart failure not included in (selling points of) lovely chemo... [More]

Fuckin' 9/11 Terrorist Attack!

September 11, 2007

On my immune system!  I had to be admitted to the hospital today because I had a fever, no white blood cells, and thrush!  Thrush does not rock.  It is a fungal infection from microorganisms that are always present in the mouth.  Because of chemo, it's more likely that I'll contract it than "normals" because my immune system doesn't keep things in check.  They're giving me some Magic Mouthwash and an antifungal antibiotic called V-Fin, I reckon.  I'm on other antibiotics because whenever I have a fever and no white blood cells, they've got to make me an IV immune system.

The real problem is no white blood cells.  I had my Neulasta shot last Wednesday and it should have gotten my whiteys back up by now.  Tomorrow morning I'll find out if I've improved at all when they do blood work.  If not, I may have to reschedule our flight for friday or early saturday.  I better be out of here, because I'm gonna be in Minnesota, bin Laden.

We did notice a new growth in my sinus last week and then my appetite wasn't too good sometimes or my stomach said, "Shut up!"  On Sunday night I ate one of my favorite foods, prepared by our...
