Normal is weird

July 26, 2007

Ol' Dr. Deconti is going to wait to do more scans until after my 8th round.  I just completed the sixth, and for the first time since my platelets have been measured (since March 2 before my surgery), they were in the normal range.  That is a sign that the bone marrow is improving.  The scans don't tell that much, but the blood work does.  My highest before was a platelet count of 80,000.  The minimum for the normal range is 150,000.  I was up to 200,000 before my sixth round, so I'm winning the fight, possibly on my way to scoring a knockout.

In other news, I'm going to name my kid, Dad.  Then whenever he calls for me, I'll say, "Shut up.  Quit talking to yourself."  He'll be a broken kid in a mental institution, and I'll be scared to tell people that my Dad is younger than me.  It's a weird idea, but that's why it just might work.  Normal is weird.

I was thinking about the difference in sense of smell not just between humans and dags, but between humans and humans.  Some will walk into a room and notice nothing unusual.  Another will walk in...

Grass and No Construction Will Cause Delays

July 18, 2007

We left a little after 10 AM on Tuesday to go to the Kwik-E-Mart 7/11 and Universal Studios in Orlando, but we still found a traffic jam in Tampa, in a spot where there usually isn't one.  When we finally made it to the exit, we saw people picking up large squares of grass from the side of the road.  Maybe it was sod.  I'll have to ask a landscaper.  It was a devastating experience.

We made it to the Kwik-E-Mart pretty quickly.  Anastasia took many pictures.  You might be able to view them at: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewAlbums&friendID=5589184.  Pictures of the Universal Studios 360 finale (mainly lights at night) are also there.  There were the Simpsons products that can currently be found at any 7/11:  Buzz Cola, Homer's Favorite Pink Donuts, Squishee Cups with Simpsons Straws, Radioactive Man Origin comic, and Frosted Krusty O's cereal ("The best you can expect from a TV clown.")  Simpsons characters, lifesize, 2 1/3-dimensional, were placed in the store, on the wall, and sitting on the roof.  OK, Universal now.

We walked a lot.  I found me a treasure map showing the rides.  We heard good things about the Men in Black ride, where you can shoot aliens and find...

Holy Irish Potatoes, Batman!

July 7, 2007

Yes, that title is the traditional prelude to a good night of boxing.  We will see 6'6" Wladimir Klitschko of Communissia defend his title against a man who knocked him out the last time they fought.  Then there will be a replay of the crazy 44 year-old Holyfield's fight last week against 41 year-old Lou Savarese.  Holyfield says he's ready to become champion again.  The Dinosaurs have again risen.  Then a couple other guys will fight.  You don't care.  But seriously, Holy Irish Potatoes!  Kijam!  I did well with my new chemo, vincristine and doxyrubicin (doxy also has a different name that starts with an "a").  Doxy is red and makes you piss red for a bit, but that's just impressive.  Maybe a little bit of fatigue, maybe some dry mouth or throat, but nothing serious.  Anastasia is done training at work, so now she takes cab calls from 10 pm-6 am.  She's wild, I tell ya.

We've been planning wedding stuff, in the tradition of how it works in The Wedding Singer, I say I'll do it and Anastasia picks out flowers and ornaments that, to me, are quite inconsequential.  I care about the end, not the means.  I...
